I’ve been thinking about this a bit more. Todays lettering experiment uses the thought that each long horizontal line contains a single word. the marks attached to it would be the sounds within the word. On further thought the word containers need to indicate something more than just what is in the word… because a space between words is just as good (and easier) to indicate where words are split. So if each long horizontal line affects the sound of the word in some way they would be more useful. On the other hand, you would generally be the first pen-stroke you made when you were writing a word, and what do you do if you made it too sort to contain all the sounds of a long word, or too long for a short word? It does have a nice alien feel to the style though.
